Description
This is an extremely rare, antique brilliant period hand cut crystal TWISTED and tapered lay-down perfume bottle with a sterling top. The 7" long crystal bottle is of a thick heavy quality and deeply cut in the extremely rare, twisted cut pattern. The cutting of the crystal is sharp and the crisp work of a master. The bottle overall has 4 crystal patterns including the diamond with block cuts, the curved cut panel waist, and the rare barley-sugar twist. The sterling (solidly) hinged top opens to reveal the original ground crystal stopper which fits perfectly to create a watertight seal. The sterling is clearly hallmarked with L&S (for Levy and Salaman), the Birmingham anchor, the u of 1895 and the lion. The deep dome shaped lid has a deep worked repousse of floral design and a monogram FGC. Although the top of the perfume bottle is sterling silver of British make, many of the crystal bottles were made in the United States. This one looks like Hawkes or Dorflinger work of the American Brilliant period of the 1890s. The crystal is clear and sparkling with no fog. The condition of the bottle is perfect - I found no flaws. The top of the dome shaped lid has a shallow bump. (More photos are available if desired) The bottle is about 7" in length 1' at the top and 1/4" at the tip. It weighs 63 grams.
